This was a special 50th birthday present from Jonathans girlfriend Christine Riddle. His friend Shane had also come along for the day. The wonderful Decoy lakes near Whittlesey in Cambridgeshire was the chosen venue. Diane the owner had kindly allowed them both to use keepnets.
It was a cool autumn morning with a moderate north easterly win. The barbel and carp were still feeding well on Cedar lake so I decided we would fish there.

Jonathan opted to fish the feeder with a 4mm banded pellet on a size 18 hook. After 3 casts the tip went round and he was into his first fish. Shane was fairly new to fishing so I set him up with one of my poles with just a top 3 kit, loose feeding with 4mm hard feed carp pellets with a 4mm banded pellet. After about 10 minutes he was catching well. The action never stopped as both anglers were matching each other fish for fish with carp and barbel.

We left the bank at about 4 pm Jonathan having caught close to 60lbs and Shane about 70lbs.
