Phil West Masterclass Day Decoy Lakes
01.07.2016
brilliant catch Phil
This was a special 50th birthday present from some of Phil’s fishing friends. Craig Charlton had organised it and his dad Steve and himself had also come along for the day. The wonderful Decoy lakes near Whittlesey in Cambridgeshire was the chosen venue.
It was an ok sort of day with a moderate westerly wind. No rain was forecast so that was a plus. The fishery was really busy and the only lake left to fish was one side of Yew.
All 3 anglers started on the bottom at 7 mts loose feeding 4mm Van Den Eynde hard feed carp pellets and also using a pot on the pole to feed a few 6mm hard pellets every ship out. This lake holds a good head of large carp so a 6mm banded hard pellet was the choice of hoobait.
Soon they were all catching well. Phil in particular was hooking and landing some quality carp.
We took the catch shots and returned the fish at about 4.30pm, Phil having reached his net limit and was returning the fish as he caught them. I guess he had caught close to 130lbs, Craig just over 100lbs and Steve about 70lbs.

Tom Podmore Masterclass Day River Trent
04.07.2016
great catch of dace Tom
This was a special 80th birthday present from Gareth, Carol, Howard and Claire. Sons Gareth and Howard had also come along for the day.
The river Trent near Nottingham was the chosen venue. It was a warm sunny morning with a light westerly wind. At last summer has arrived.
Groundbait feeder was the chosen method. The river was just dropping after recent rain but conditions were almost perfect. Second cast in Toms tip rattled and he was rewarded with a 4ozs dace. More dace followed plus a roach about 6ozs and also some perch. Howard started on stickfloat and was catching quite well. A switch to feeder in the last hour was much better and he had a run of quality dace. Gareth fished the feeder all day and enjoyed himself catching dace and perch.

Trevor Walker Masterclass Day Decoy Lakes
06.07.2016
brilliant catch Trevor
This was a special 60th birthday present from Trevor’s wife Anne, daughter Michelle and son in law Robert who had also come along for the day. The wonderful Decoy Lakes near Whittlesey in Cambridgeshire was the chosen venue.
It was a warm summer morning with light westerly wind. All the strip lakes were free. I decided we would fish the middle pegs on Cedar Lake which are always good for big barbel.
Pole at 7mts was the chosen method, loose feeding with 4mm Van Den Eynde hard feed carp pellets plus using a small pot on the pole to feed some 6mm pellets, hookbait was 4mm and 6mm banded pellets.
Within a few minutes of feeding, both anglers were catching well. Rob was only using one net and had reached the limit in under 2 hours. Trevor had 2 nets and had reached the limit by 1 pm and they were both returning fish as they caught them.
We left at about 4pm Trevor and Rob had both had a brilliant day catching close to 200lbs each.

Tommy Wright Masterclass Day Gunwade Lake
07.07.2016
great catch Tommy
This was a special 60th birthday present from Tommy’s family, Yvonne, Kerry, Stephen, Beth, and George. Daughter Kerry had also come along for the day and was taking most of the pictures with my camera.
Gunwade lake at Ferry Meadows near Peterborough in Cambridgeshire was the chosen venue.
It was a warm morning with a moderate westerly wind, perfect conditions for fishing.
Feeder was the chosen method, clipping up at about 35 mts and accurate casting in the same spot soon had the hybrids feeding. Double red maggot was the best hookbait. It was still not easy to hit all the bites as a lot of small fish were in the swim.
We stayed until about 5pm. The fish were still feeding. Tommy had had a brilliant day and had never stopped smiling.

Christopher Thickpenny Masterclass Day Decoy Lakes
08.07.2016
brilliant catch Chris
This was a special present from Christopher’s wife Katarina to celebrate their wedding anniversary. The wonderful Decoy lakes near Whittlesey in Cambridgeshire was the chosen venue.
It was a warm overcast morning with a moderate westerly wind. I decided that Cedar lake with the wind on our backs would be a good choice.
Pole at 7mts was the method, cupping in 6mm hard feed carp pellets and loose feeding over the top with 4mm hard pellets with a 4mm banded pellet on the hook.
It only took a few minutes for the fish to respond to the feed and Chris was rewarded with a beautiful 6lb koy carp. Barbel, F1’s and carp followed at regular intervals, and by 2pm both keepnets had reached the limit of 50lbs and Chris was returning fish as he caught them.
We left the bank at about 4pm Chris having had a brilliant day having caught close to 150lbs.
