Alan Sutton Masterclass Day Decoy lakes
07.04.2016
great catch Alan
This was a special Christmas present from Alan’s girlfriend Rachel and mum Barbara. The wonderful Decoy Lakes near Whittlesey in Cambridgeshire was the chosen venue. Diane the owner had kindly allowed Alan to use keepnets.
It was a cold spring morning with a strong westerly wind. One of the best lakes, Beastie was free and so I decided we would fish there.
Pole was the selected method, cupping in 2mm and 4mm Van Den Eynde hard feed carp pellets with a small pot, also loose feeding a few 4mm pellets over the top. Hookbait was a 4mm elite expander pellet. It was a really slow start with just a few very small skimmers in the first 90 minutes. Then the better fish started to feed and the action really hotted up as carp, F1’s, skimmers, tench and even barbel were netted.
A switch to fishing up in the water with a banded 4mm pellet in the last hour resulted in a good run of quality F1’s.
We left the bank at about 5pm Alan having had a brilliant afternoon’s fishing catching close to 90 lbs.
